Interior Upkeep

When it comes to the value, appeal, and health of your home, it goes much further than exterior looks. Yes, at Window Wizards, we know first impressions are extremely important, but it’s what’s on the inside that makes your guest feel welcome. And in today’s real estate market, you don’t want to take any chances when it comes to selling your home. Even if you are thinking of selling in the distant future, there are ways to keep your home up-to-date and sell-worthy…as well as comfortable and livable.

Window Wizards has put together a list of interior jobs that need to be completed on a regular basis to keep your home up to par and running smoothly:

SCRATCH REMOVAL: Scratched glass, tabletops, or acid vandalized windows are an eyesore. No one wants to look out of the window only to see a huge scratch across their view. Save yourself money later on and fix these as they come. They can be polished or “resurfaced,” creating substantial savings over replacement costs.

MIRROR CLEANING: When you look in the mirror, what do you see? If it’s a smudge or stain, you’re missing what’s really there, YOU!  See yourself in a new light after having your mirrors professionally cleaned for a truly beautiful reflection.

INTERIOR LIGHT FIXTURE CLEANING: Chandeliers command attention. They are a major focus point in any room and add class, grandeur and extravagance.  Do not let a dull appearance take away from your beautiful fixtures. Clean your lights to a like-new shine.

LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT: Dealing with burned out bulbs in high light fixtures? Why? You don’t want to change a difficult light when it’s wet and cold outside! During our visit, we can replace the hard to reach interior bulbs or exterior flood lights for you.

CEILING FANS: Indoor (and outdoor) fans need to be cleaned regularly to maintain a proper appearance and to operate efficiently. If your fan is lopsided and rattling, you are wasting money on the energy it takes to power it. When a fan runs smoothly, it runs efficiently. It also runs cleanly. Fans collect a majority of the dust and allergens in your home; keeping them cleaned decreases this.

HIGH DUSTING / COBWEB REMOVAL: High ledges and exterior foyers can present dangerous or inconvenient cleaning challenges for homeowners. Empty bird nests in hard to reach areas can create other eyesores that we can safely remove and clean out in these high areas.

You’re home can run efficiently form the inside out! For more information about Window Wizards’ services, LIKE our Facebook page!

Autumn Leaves are Falling

At Window Wizards, we LOVE the changing seasons – the autumn leaves are changing and the colors are popping out everywhere! However, our homes don’t always love it as we do, especially our gutters.

Gutter and Downspout cleaning is a critical service that needs to be completed on a bi-annual basis, especially if you have trees near your home. This service removes leaves and debris from gutter systems allowing them to protect the roof, home, and foundation as they are designed to by properly moving water off and away from the house.

Leaves that fall in the gutter system collect and clog the downspouts preventing water from passing thru the system properly. Overflowing water from gutters can often times flow back into the home through the eaves or soffit potentially causing black mold and water damage. Standing water will also corrode the gutter system, shortening its life span. Gutters that hold water can also be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Window Wizards can help prevent these problems by offering a gutter and downspout cleaning service so you don’t have to!

Homeowners with trees on their property have their gutters cleaned at least two times a year. Visit our website and Facebook page for more information and how to schedule an appointment!

Mineral and Hard Water Deposits

When looking out your windows, what do you see? If it’s spots of mineral or hard water deposits, then you’re not getting the full potential of a view. Window Wizards has some tips for you that can help avoid those deposit stains.

Hard water deposits are caused from the buildup of calcium carbonate on windows and other surfaces from sprinkler systems or pool Polaris systems that spray water from the tail. These deposits, called “scale”, are composed mainly of calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and calcium sulfate. Calcium and magnesium carbonates tend to be deposited as off-white solids. The buildup of deposits on your window (if left unaddressed) will cause irreversible damage including up to stage two corrosion with the solution being costly window replacement.

It is crucial to try and stop this from occurring as quickly as possible. But it’s not too hard:

Sprinkler systems can be adjusted to proactively prevent cause of the problem. Polaris’ can also have the tail removed to prevent them from spraying on your windows.

You aren’t alone and we can help! Window Wizards can progressively attack this problem with light scrubbing pads to 30,000 rpm glass polishing equipment. This will leave your window sparkling like new with a spot free shine.

Increase the Value of Your Home

In today’s real estate market, you don’t want to take any chances when it comes to selling your home, and everyone here at Window Wizards knows it. Even if you are thinking of selling in the distant future, there are ways to keep your home up-to-date and sell-worthy. Window Wizards and Bankrate.com have put together a list of the top 10 things and projects you can do to add value to your home!

1. An updated kitchen. People look for solid surface counters and high-quality flooring, such as wood, laminate, tile or stone. And they want newer appliances in working order.

2. Modern bathrooms. People look for master bathrooms that offer a spacious, luxurious escape. Some other features buyers are seeking: separate showers with steam and/or multiple jets, double sink, separate room for the toilet.

3. A well-appointed master suite. Speaking of master bathrooms, you want a suite that will do it justice! A suite needs a spacious bedroom, bathroom and closet.

4. Natural materials. In floor coverings, especially bathrooms or kitchens, look for ceramic tile or wood rather than linoleum, which can tear. In the rest of the house, wood or laminate products are a plus over wall-to-wall, says Gary Eldred, author of “The 106 Common Mistakes Homebuyers Make (and How to Avoid Them).” But if you have carpet, it should be a good product and well maintained so that a person doesn’t have to walk in and think, ‘I’m going to have to spend five grand right off the bat.

5. Curb appeal. First impressions are everything and whether we like it or not, people do judge by the cover. That includes landscaping, exterior materials/paint, and driveway/sidewalk maintenance.

6. A light, airy spacious feel. No one wants to be in a room that feels cramped and dark. Even if you have a small room, using colors, materials and layout in the best way can open any room up.

7. Good windows. Insulated windows are always a plus, and well-placed skylights are also a good touch to add value. People really look at how windows are kept up, but more importantly, how they will act in extreme heat and cold, and if they will help the homeowner save money.

8. Landscaping. You don’t have to have a jungle in the middle of the suburbs, but a clean, crisp yard will do.

9. Lots of storage. Nothing beats an oversized garage, some attic space and plenty of closets.

10. Basement. This should be dry, and to add even more value, finished.

These are all projects that will not only add value to your home, but will add entertainment value and comfort! And when it comes to the dirty stuff, let someone else do it! For more information about Window Wizards’ services, check out our Facebook page!

Pressure Washing

When it comes to Pressure Washing, Window Wizards uses only the best equipment for this task. We have both mobile units that can get into the tightest areas for smaller jobs around a home and also high power trailer mounted hot water units that can take off the most difficult dirt and stains.

A pressure washer is a mechanical sprayer that, depending on nozzle size, can be used as a low volume high-pressure water cleaner or a high volume low pressure water cleaner to remove loose paint, mold, grime, dust, mud, and dirt from surfaces and objects such as buildings, vehicles, and concrete road surfaces. Some pressure washers, in combination with a particular nozzle, allow detergent to be introduced into the water stream, assisting in the cleaning process. Two types of chemical injectors are available — a low-pressure and a high-pressure.

See how Window Wizards can use the high pressure washer on a basic concrete driveway or sidewalk to remove built-up dirt and grime:

With our vast knowledge of chemicals almost anything can be removed by our crews from pecan stains, efflorescence, mold, algae, spray paint, concrete tire marks and most grease. Call us today or visit our website and we can give you an estimate to remove it. For more tips, see our Facebook page!

Pure Water Cleaning

Window Cleaning has been around for over 100 years, and throughout those years, experts and professionals have evolved the practice and techniques used to thoroughly clean residential and commercial buildings. One process that stands above the rest is Pure Water Window Cleaning.

This process uses 100% purified water manufactured onsite to agitate the dirt, residue, and cobwebs from the glass and frames and rinse it away to the ground using very low pressure 40-60 psi. The amount of water used is ½ to ¾ GPM, a very low volume that equals out to much less than running your sprinkler system for half and hour. The water is pumped from the van to the water fed carbon fiber pole reaching up to 60’ or five stories from the ground. This keeps the professional firmly planted on the ground performing a very thorough job. The windows are washed and rinsed with a soft bristle brush and left to air dry minutes later with a perfectly clean spot free clean.

Our five step filtration system starts with a 10 micron filter,5 micron charcoal filter, descaler, Reverse Osmosis Membranes and a final polish with a mixedbed Deionization filter. This brings the total PPM or parts-to-million down to 0; which also acts like a detergent. This process strips everything from the water bringing it to its purest state.

After our initial visit we evaluate each property on an individual base for the ability to maintain the window units during future visits with our state of the art Pure Water Window Cleaning system.

Weatherize with Silicone to Make Energy Savings Last

When heating and cooling costs have your back against the wall, it’s time for a DIY project–air sealing.

You can save money and energy and help the environment by sealing gaps and cracks with silicone caulk. An easy task for most handy homeowners, it can cut home heating and cooling costs by as much as 14 percent. Here are hints on how:

Step 1: Select the right caulk. Not all caulk provides energy savings over time. Silicone caulk does. Unlike acrylic caulk, silicone is permanently flexible, shrink- and crack-proof and waterproof.

In fact, silicone remains unaffected by all weather and temperature conditions so gaps and cracks, where energy dollars can pass, will not form.

Leaks are never a good thing but even more dangerous when you assume they don’t exist following your sealing efforts.

Step 2: Weatherize before “weather” hits…and now is about as perfect a time as it gets! Don’t put off weatherizing until it’s cold out and your energy dollars have already gone up the chimney.

Step 3: Search the house for leaks and seal the gaps with silicone. Air can enter or exit a house through cracks and openings in many places.

Some of the most common areas to find leaks:
• Attic
• Basement
• Doors and Windows
• Plumbing and Wiring Entrance Sites
